Wyss Attended the Annual Conference of the Central Bank of Brazil 2024, an event aimed at stimulating debate and research in various crucial areas of the contemporary economy. This gathering brings together academics, private sector experts, and representatives from central banks and multilateral institutions, establishing itself as an excellent forum for discussions on microeconomics, macroeconomics, sustainability, financial stability, banking economics, intermediation and financial innovation, macroprudential regulation, international economics, and finance.

The current macroeconomic scenario, marked by significant changes since the pandemic, presents new challenges. This year's Conference emerges as a unique opportunity to deepen debates on contemporary and relevant topics both globally and domestically. Issues such as "Inflation" and "Sustainability," as well as "Climate Models" and "Macro-finance," will be at the center of the discussions.

Maintaining its tradition of continuous dialogue with academia, other central banks, and multilateral organizations, the Central Bank of Brazil seeks, through this event, to contribute to the formulation of public policies based on best practices, the most up-to-date economic theory, and recent empirical evidence.

This year's program features keynote lectures by renowned economists: Gianluca Violante from Princeton University and Xavier Vives from IESE Business School. These presentations promise to bring valuable and updated insights on global economic issues. The event also includes the presence of the Bank of England, Bank of Canada, Central Bank of Uruguay, King's College London, Copenhagen Business School, University of Rome Tor Vergata, IESE Business School, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Universidad de Santiago, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, UFABC, Indiana University, University of Rome Tor Vergata, PUC/Chile, Kiel University, among others.

One of the highlights of the Conference will be the special session celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Real Plan, a milestone in Brazil's economic history. This session will feature the presence of former Central Bank presidents Gustavo Franco, Gustavo Loyola, Pedro Malan, and Pérsio Arida, providing a reflection on the impacts and legacy of this important economic plan.

In Session 5B, dedicated to "Credit Guarantees and Subsidies," Gilneu Francisco Astolfi Vivan (Central Bank of Brazil) will moderate crucial discussions on understanding credit mechanisms and their impact on business growth. Among the topics covered will be an investigation into the effectiveness of subsidized loans, presented by José Renato Haas Ornelas (Central Bank of Brazil). This session will also feature debates by Carlos Antonio Burga Idrogo (PUC/Chile) and Jorge Luis Ponce (Central Bank of Uruguay), providing a broad and international perspective on the topic.

The expectation is that the Annual Conference of the Central Bank of Brazil 2024 will be highly productive, promoting enriching discussions and significant advances in the areas of central bank activities.

José Renato Haas Ornelas, an employee and analyst at the Research and Studies Department of the Central Bank of Brazil, received the "Best BC Discussion Papers" award, standing out for his relevant and innovative contributions.
